Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Absolutely loving the gallery.  I started looking for something like this a while ago but everything I fould was not quite right.

This plugin is absolutely perfect.

I may have found a little bug though :-(

I uploaded a bunch of pictures, did the create thumbnails and all was perfect.  Displayed the gallery on the front page - sorted.  However, when I clicked on a picture it just froze.  It looks like the problem was caused by the fact the the original images were uploaded with an extension of "JPG".  The thumbs are created with a "jpg" extension and the links to the files are also "jpg".  When I changed the original pictures from "JPG" to "jpg" it worked perfectly.

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Another possible bug or maybe just an improvement.

Gallery created and displayed on the website all working perfectly.  I add more pictures to the existing gallery and obviously they are not displayed.

I then run the thumbnail creator thing again and I then get two thumbnails of the existing pictures and the new one is added.

Can the create thumbnails routine either remove all existing "-thumb.jpg" files before it starts or make sure it does not create a thumb of files which contain "-thumb.jpg".

I only noticed this doing it as the files page listed:
1.jpg
1-thumb.jpg
1-thumb-thumb.jpg
1-thumb-thumb-thumb.jpg
2.jpg
2-thumb.jpg

etc, etc.  You get what I mean!

Still loving the plugin though.

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

First of all, glad you like the gallery. It is made to handle bunch of pics as easy is possible. As I wrote somewhere on the site, it needs some improvements and fixes and you are the first who came out with some of them (sorry about that).

Ups, I've forgot to write there somewhere on the page. I know about this "bug", and we tryied to fixed that before releasing plugin but didn't had any luck with it.
Anyway, we'll see about fixing that (though I doubt it will be any time soon) as most of the cameras (and all photo editing programs) gives lowercase extensions like "jpg", "png" etc. and just crappy ones give uppercase ext.
That "JPG" has given as (actually my misses) a lot of headache too!

smile Bad me, bad, bad! Also forgot to mention somewhere on the page that too. It is on our super secret TO DO list, as I also had similar issues on testing site, but with folder (which was immediately fixed).

Anyway, hope this will be fixed sooner as that "JPG" problem, but now you know that you have to delete all thumbs from that folder before you re-create gallery.
Sorry if that caused you lot of problems, still glad you like it.

P.S. I was sick and tired of writing all the docs and doing a website in the same time so I've kinda forgot to write some more details. I'm almost done with design of the whole "project79.net" site and will update documentation and gallery when all goes live.

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

RPG, sorry for having the problems with gallery.

About the JPG problem: I've tried to fixed it, but the main problem was that PHP does not have function which will create thumbnails with extension .JPG, it only have functions that creates .jpg, .gif, .png.
I have solution in my head but momentarily I don't have time to fix it, and I know that it will take a lots of time and nerves to make it work. But I promise you that I will fix it as soon as possible.

About that multiple "-thumb" it wont be problem to solve (I sincerely hope so) so I will do my best to fix it this week.

Sorry for not so perfect gallery, but we were so satisfied with it, so we wanted to share it with Wolf users. And we putted it for download before the bugs were removed.

Just let me know if there are some more bugs in it.

P.S. Happy you liked it anyway! wink

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Feature request.  How about:

1) adding each gallery location and thumbnail size to the database at the time of creating the gallery so that you could then have a list of existing galleries with a single click "rebuild" gallery using the existing settings.

2) to overcome the "JPG" issue can you just rename files at the point gallery creation

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Another little problem...

I have three PC's all looking at the same website (www.ac-mole.co.uk) and are all appropriately MS patch updated (as far as I am aware).

PC 1 views the gallery correctly.

PC2 and PC3 cuts the right hand edge (well third) off the first picture, left hand edge (third) off the last picture and both edges (leaving only the middle third) off the ones inbetween.

Its like the area used for scrolling between the pictures is overwriting the picture itself.  This is the first picture in the gallery:

Part of picture missing

Any ideas whats going on and why it works on one machine but not others?

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Well, I must say that I have been looking at your site today afternoon and was wondering who's site it is (now I know).
This is not an MS glitch but CSS. And if you change your site template to "Simple" you'll see that everything is showing like it supposed to be (no color covering). This little error happens when you make your link selector "a" with background color. The Wolf theme selectors inherit background color from page so it produces background color when you want to go further to next image.

Here is the default code from Wolf theme "a" selector:

a, a:visited {
    color: #79A325;
    background: inherit;
    text-decoration: none;
}
a:hover {
    color: #73471B;
    background: inherit;
    text-decoration: underline;
}

All you have to do is to delete "background:inherit;" and everything should be ok.

This can be avoid if you define main selector "a" with just color and text decoration, and make another link just for content like this:

#content a:link {
     background:#ccc;
}

This may work smile , but my recommendation is not to use background color for "a".

There is one more way to overide this, but try this first and let me know how it's going.

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

Great work on this plugin.

One thing that I find with these lightshow galleries is that some users have no idea that they have to hover the mouse over the image for the next/previous arrows to appear and allow them to move forward.  It would be great to have an option for these to be either permanently on, either on the image or below the image ( perhaps either side of the image name ).

Secondly if you could make it have an option for a slideshow as well, this would then be perfect !

Thanks so much.

I've just been playing with wolf and I absolutely love it.  Put together with the Fancy Image Gallery and its excellent.

Am planning to use it just as an online photo gallery for the family - but obvioulsy protecting the gallery pages.  Also looking to develop client websites from time to time.

Fixed!
Head over and download 0.7.1 version smile (in the end it took only 3 lines of code to fix this)
Big thanks to my wife and her good will wink

You should use it. I've done all my sites on Frog/Wolf (I'm porting old ones to Wolf as it's going steady on it's road and it's more friendly in means of forum)

Well, as good as it sound to have some sort of stats I don't think that this will happened with this gallery as it should stay as simple as possible. I wanted that too, but it complicates everything.

We'll see about that.

This will not happened as fancybox doesn't support slideshows. But since galleries are pretty much must have on regular sites we will make one more (as it is our thing now big_smile).
It should also be as simple as possible.

Fixed one more issue!
Now you can add images to an existing gallery and trigger Create Thumbnails without any worry that they will duplicate themselves.

Great plugin!

Do you have any plans to integrate a function in order to automatically keep a certain image proportion on resizing?

Well, no! wink
Let me elaborate:
To make a function to remember some setting it needs some kind of DB, weather it's mysql, xml or flat file and so it complicates whole procedure and further development, and in the end gives you less control over some possible future changes for thumbs.

Hi Jackie

Love the gallery - very simple and easy to use smile

I too would like to see that auto proportion feature.

Would it need a database? I thought that an idea might be that, if the user put, for example, 100 for the width and 0 for the height, then the code would work out the height based on the image proportions - not sure if that would be possible though - but would be an excellent addition if it was wink

Thanks

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

If its just a generic setting you need to keep track of (like: "all thumbs should be 100x100"), you can use the Plugin API's getSetting() and setSetting() functions.

(see: Plugin.php starting line 313-ish)

Re: New Plugin - Fancy Image Gallery

thought it'd actually be better to place my errors and queries here rather than making more threads and posts in random nether parts of the forum....

Jackie,

I've managed to get things working to the point of creating the gallery and setting up the thumbnails etc.. But when I try to feed the gallery into the site, I get this error comment on my the page that should display the images:
"There are no images in this gallery."

There are 4 images within this gallery, and they are correctly uploaded as I can see them in the public/images/ directory in a folder called newgallery/
I've remembered all the trailing slashes etc... and the folders have correct permissions, be it 755 or 644.
Any other ideas why they wouldn't feed in?
I'm using the tag:

<?php fancy ('newgallery/'); ?>

Thumbs up
