Topic: Simple Magazine - a theme for Wolf CMS

Here's a little New Year's Day treat (I think!) for the Wolf community. I have ported Arcsin's very nice Simple Magazine theme for Wolf. As ever, get the details on the Wolf version (including download info) from the wiki.

This one will be especially useful for content-rich websites, as it has three independent levels of navigation: primary navigation in main horizontal bar, secondary nav below it, and a third level of navigation in the sidebar. All are dynamic, and only show up if there are pages for them.

Any archive pages (no matter what you have called them) will get monthly archive links in the secondary navigation, as I have set it up now.

There are plenty of PHP comments in the Layout to explain what's going on, without those comments getting passed along to the rendered page.  I have used a few little tricks here and there, so it might be worth spending some time checking it out if you are new to Wolf.

Usually when I port a theme, I try to make sure that Wolf "out of the box" works well with it. In this case, the result will be usable, but given the nature of Arcsin's markup and CSS, it would have been too much work (for me!) to alter it. If you want to tweak the site to match Arcsin's layout, all the necessary code is included for you.

Comments and corrections in this forum thread would of course be welcome! smile

Re: Simple Magazine - a theme for Wolf CMS

hi

I have been having a look at this theme, and it has potential for me, but my problem is the screen.css file.

When I unpack the zip file the screen.css layout is very strange and incomprehensible to me. There seems to be no breaks or comments logical layout so that is easy to in and change things (like text size and colour for example).

Unfortunately I am not a programmer, and if I try to tidy up the layout I am sure I will make a complete mess of it !!!

I looked at the original website and the Wordpress version has what I understand as a normal layout css file.

Is there any easy / foolproof way of tidying up the layout of sreen.css ??

Re: Simple Magazine - a theme for Wolf CMS

Hi Alan -

Ah yes, that was the way that Arcsin (the creator) coded, at least when I ported it! I ran the CSS file through this pretty printer, and you can grab the result from Pastebin (scroll down until you see "RAW Paste Data"). It will need some tidying up, but that's one quick way of getting something more human-readable.

Hope that helps!
